Debut: 'Two Nights with Suzie Wong'

My first published short story went up on the Oyster River Pages site this month ( It's a unique and wonderful place for a story I've been trying to write for years.

Oyster River Pages blends fiction, poetry, essay and art into a full expression of human arts. I think the effect is brilliant. The new theme issue, 'Delta', is especially so. Delta is the mathematical symbol of change, and river deltas are symbols of nature's fertility and rebirth, and Oyster River Pages' 'Delta' edition celebrates new beginnings.

This was the perfect time and place to publish 'Two Nights with Suzie Wong.' It's the story of a war-weary American GI whose understanding of himself and the world around him changes when he is forced to stay with a Bangkok prostitute until he can find a way back to Vietnam. I hope you'll read it and take the time to check out the rest of the site, and, as always, I'd love to hear any comments you have on my work.

As soon as Jackson woke up, he knew it was going to be a bad day. His penis felt sore and there wasn't much mystery about why, only what the name of it was and how bad it was going to fuck up his life. He was hoping it was gonorrhea because that could be cured. He wasn't sure about the other stuff.
